Comparative Analysis of Green and UV Laser Performance in Metal Cutting Applications
Aug 05 , 2023Comparative Analysis of Green and UV Laser Performance in Metal Cutting Applications
First of all, for the green laser, its working principle is based on the physical phenomenon of excited state transition. Green lasers usually use a semiconductor laser as a pump source, and convert the wavelength into green light through nonlinear optical frequency conversion. Green laser has high beam quality and pulse energy, so it is suitable for fine cutting of micron-level thin metal sheets. In addition, the green laser has a milder surface heat-affected zone, which can reduce the deformation and residual stress of the workpiece.
In contrast, ultraviolet lasers act on metal surfaces through high-energy ultraviolet beams, causing metal photosensitive effects and generating intense photoplasma, thereby realizing cutting of metals. UV lasers are especially suitable for cutting thick metal plates due to their high cutting speed and low processing heat impact. In addition, the beam quality of the UV laser is also high, which can achieve high-precision cutting.
In general, green lasers and UV lasers have their own advantages in metal cutting. In practical applications, the appropriate laser type should be selected according to specific cutting requirements and material characteristics. In addition, in order to obtain a better cutting effect, optimization of laser processing parameters, such as pulse width, pulse energy, and scanning speed, should also be considered.
