The laser technology from JustLaser is exceptionally well suited to applying precise, durable inscriptions to glass without damaging the delicate material. Whether it’s text, photos, logos or lettering – by using a laser engraver on glass, you can consistently produce delicate details and impressive matte effects that create excitement!

GLASS – DELICATE MATERIAL WITH A SPECIAL AESTHETIC

Strictly speaking, the term “glass” is actually a collective term for a group of amorphous solid materials. They have low thermal conductivity and are difficult to process in industrial processes due to their brittleness. The risk of breakage is relatively high during production, and stresses or micro-cracks created during production may also lead to breakage later on.

As engraving glass with a laser is a gentle processing method, it offers innovative options for individualising the delicate material. Lasers operate without making contact, meaning that materials do not need to be clamped or fixed in place, and are not, therefore, subjected to any mechanical stress.

WHERE IS ENGRAVING GLASS WITH A LASER USED?

Engraving glass with a laser is a particularly efficient process, and is used in the gifts and advertising industry, in the automotive industry and in interior design, as well as for home accessories and souvenirs and for fab labs, for example:

  • Bottles and carafes
  • Photo engravings
  • Perfume bottles
  • All sorts of drinking glasses
  • Mirrors
  • Technical glasses – test tubes, lenses, scopes
  • Shatterproof glass (e.g. windscreens)
  • Photo frames
  • Decorative items
  • Advertising materials
  • Gifts
  • Display cabinets, stand-up displays, etc.

WHICH TYPES OF GLASS CAN BE PROCESSED USING A LASER?

Engraving glass with a laser is an innovative and flexible method and is suitable for many types of glass:

  • Float glass, pressed glass and drawn glass
  • Cast glass
  • Container glass
  • Shatterproof glass
  • Laminated glass (regardless of whether glass or plastic components are being marked)
  • Crystal glass
  • Mirror glass
  • Mirrors
  • Window glass
  • Soda lime glass
  • Quartz glass
  • Borosilicate glass
  • Aluminosilicate glass, etc.

ENGRAVING GLASS WITH A LASER

When engraving glass with a laser, material is removed superficially. The resulting microcracks lead to matte, white, detailed marking. The entire circumference of conical glassware can also be effortlessly processed using a rotary engraving device. These devices are suitable for different shapes, sizes and products and automatically rotate the item in question while the JustLaser Laser Engraver carries out the engraving.

Unlike acrylic, glass can only be engraved and cannot be cut.

THE BENEFITS OF LASER TECHNOLOGY IN GLASS PROCESSING

Engraving glass with a laser is a highly efficient process that has proven itself to be economically efficient for both individual production and serial production. Logos, delicate patterns and ornaments, motifs and even photos can be produced easily, even in difficult-to-reach places. The results are precise, high-contrast and permanent.

No stencils are needed as, in contrast to sandblast engraving, any material can be processed in laser processes directly and without making contact. That means there are no time-consuming work steps, like creating and applying sandblasting foils, removing any residue and cleaning the machine. As the delicate material is mechanically stressed in sandblasting, there is a greater danger of the material being damaged.

When engraving glass with a laser, the material does not need to be fixed in place – unless using a rotary engraving device – which protects the surface. This processing method also reduces expensive maintenance work and keeps wear to a minimum. The laser process is characterised by high repetition accuracy and consistently high quality. It is recommended that you use an extractor suitable for your application.
